The year was 1968, and S & S Machinery Co. was in its infancy. It was that year that S & S introduced its first battery-powered scoop.  The product would change immensely over the next 25 years, but S & S’s dominance in battery-powered equipment would not.  With as high as 80% of the market share in battery-powered scoops, S & S became one of the most successful companies the mining industry has ever seen. 

With immensely popular models such as the 482 and 488, the Simmons name became synonymous with scoops throughout the coalfields, and even the world.

Due to the company's commitment to product development and intensely efficient production systems, S & S (and later Ingersoll-Rand and Simmons-Rand) maintained its standard of excellence in battery-powered equipment for nearly 30 years.

Almost 40 years since the journey began, Simmons Equipment Company is pleased to introduce the next generation of battery-powered scoops.

Starting with strong leadership from company President Jack Simmons, Simmons Equipment Company is building on the principles of quality and innovation that made S & S the market leader.  As Director of Product Development for S & S and Executive Vice President for Simmons-Rand, Mr. Simmons grew up in the mining business and played an intricate role in establishing S & S and Simmons-Rand as an engineering and manufacturing giant from 1963-1980, 1987-1992.

Meshing a lifetime of experience in mining equipment with the latest in CAD technologies, Simmons Equipment Company has developed a variety of battery powered scoops with drastic advancements the industry hasn’t seen in decades.  From the two brand new bucket options to the robust, low-maintenance dual bearing center section design, Simmons Equipment is building on its history of innovation.  These design enhancements are incorporated in all the machines Simmons Equipment manufactures, from the ultra-low S260 scoop to the mid to high seam S360 scoop.
